Tribe

Our ancestors lived in small bands or tribes. British anthropologist Roger Dunbar’s research showed that the upper limit number of people with whom one can maintain stable social relationships is around 150, and that the number of close relationships we can maintain is around 50.  That’s about the size of the average hunter-gatherer band.  Humans are social animals, and strong and stable relationships were critical to our ancestors' survival.  In the modern world many people feel isolated, and even though we are connected through technology, depression and anxiety are rampant.
